Resumo: The pandemic of COVID-19 caused an unprecedented crisis in the hotel sector. In Portugal, there was a drop of almost 70% in total revenues in hotels during 2020. Based on semi-structured interviews with the directors and owners of 27 tourist accommodations in mainland Portugal of the sun and sea, nature and city break tourism products, the measures and strategies adopted during the pandemic in 2020 in hotel establishments at the financial, communication, facilities, promotions, human resources, technology and health and safety levels are presented. This research also discusses recovery strategies and future perspectives for the sector, indicating best practices and new paths for the hotel industry as a whole.
