Resumo: The Mem de Sá Island community is located at the Costa de Coqueirais, on a fluvial island in the estuary of the river VazaBrarris, located 23 km from the municipality's Itaporanga D 'Ajudam where it is located, and 53 km from Aracaju, capital of the state of Sergipe, Brazil. The research analyzes the attractive museum as a tourist potential for the community, considering the importance of developing a museological plan for the management of community-based tourism. It is considered that museums play a decisive role in reaffirming historical and cultural narratives and meanings in the process of appropriation by visitors, tourists and the local community. The research consisted of data collection with a bibliographical survey, documents, interviews and systematic observation. The results show the interest of the population in the elaboration of the Museological Plan of the Mem de Sá Island Community Museum. The opinions of the residents, who build the community daily, will help effectively in the elaboration of this new local tourist attraction. It is then verified the importance of the elaboration of such a plan, aiming at the construction of a museum under the principles of community-museology and community-based tourism.
