Resumo: Introduction: Hydrotherapy is the use of natural mineral water and other complementary means for the prevention, treatment, rehabilitation or welfare. The use of sulphurous water is the most therapeutically indicated type of water for users with rheumatic. Objective: Our main objective is to understand the state of the scientific evidence in the Hydrotherapy area of sulphurous thermal water in cases of rheumatic disease through the study of research protocols about the effects. Methodology: The selected articles were collected from the following data basis: Pubmed, Science Direct and Cochrane. The criteria used to select these articles were defined as being published in English, French or Portuguese between 2000 to the present day, being an experimental model and having mentioned the use of sulfur water throughout the article. The exclusion criteria were the research area of the article not being focused on physical therapy. We found a total of 51 articles related to rheumatic diseases. Results: Overall, the search resulted in 6 articles related to the effects of the sulphurous water in rheumatic disease. All articles showed a significant decrease in pain, such as an increase in functional capacity and life quality of patients. Conclusion: All the revised studies suggest a positive effects of using sulphurous waters in patients with rheumatic disease. However, the number of articles published in this area is very small so there’s a need of further studies in order to consolidate these results.
