Resumo: Cultural tourism has been growing in recent years, as its importance increases in the tourism sector. Touristic information professionals are intercultural mediators, who should have expertise, general knowledge and certain communicative and behavioral skills. Their concerns must include building a bridge between tourists and receptive communities, regarding their cultural differences, highlighting heritage and minimizing possible negative impacts of tourism in places visited and in everyday lives of its residents. This paper aims to describe the importance of cultural tourism, touristic information professionals, itineraries design, the role of resident populations and the interrelationship between all these relevant actors and factors. To achieve these goals, interviews to two tour guides were performed. The results were analyzed and compared with the literature already available.
