Resumo: The work presents a chronological analysis of regional planning in Brazil, for this, brings considerations about the actions of regional development policies rescuing information since the Working Group for the Development of the Northeast, in the 1950s, through the period of the militarist model in the 1960s, until reaching the most current policies, such as the National Policy for Regional Development (PNDR). The present study, in addition to the historical perspective, takes a parallel approach where governmental, political, social, geographic and environmental values are considered. Oliveira's analysis (2008) can bring us a comparison of possible applications of regional planning to hotel planning, and vice-versa, thus contributing to foster initiatives for a socioeconomic development. It is, therefore, a comparative study between the so-called 'official' regional planning by governmental initiatives and the hotel business planning, which based on discriminations, can infer the contribution of the hotel business as a sign for regional planning. It was demonstrated that taking into account the individuality of these two types of planning, it is necessary to verify indispensable steps to achieve improvements in regional planning from the planning of the hotel business when elaborated on a regional scale.
