Resumo: This article aims to analyze the motivations for participation in music festivals, analyzing them from the perspective of tourism and investigate if the experience at a music festival is configured as a tourism experience. The method used in addition to the literature, the qualitative nature documentary, was a field survey in which were conducted semi-structured qualitative interviews with 32 participants from at least two music festivals. The following categories of analysis for motivation were established: the experience, the sharing and the influence of the place. Among the main results it was found that the motivation for participation in music festivals is broad and diverse, though involve music, the spectacle created and social interaction. Tourism makes it possible countless experiences, while music festivals allow a unique experience similar of a journey, with the difference in the involvement with the other elements of the city. Therefore, it was concluded that the experience provided by the festivals have some elements that composes the essence of tourism, as motivation that creates an expectation, the place that houses the living and social interaction.
