Resumo: Cooperation in the form of partnerships and networks among the various social actors of tourism, is a fundamental condition for the development and planning of tourism .This article is a result of a Tourism Phd research and aims to examine what role the cooperation between social actors in the public sector, private sector and voluntary tourism development in a sub - region of Alentejo: the South Alentejo. The empirical research was based on a quantitative character examination of social actors (leaders) of the local and regional tourism, a sector perspective and tripartite (public sector, private sector and voluntary sector) in order to understand their perception of the importance attributed to the establishment of cooperative relations between them and networking formal cooperation for the development of South Alentejo and Alentejo. The results demonstrated the importance of cooperation among stakeholders for tourism development of South Alentejo in priority areas such as promoting the destination, appreciation of culture, development of organized tourism , and themed products based on the features of the sub–region. The creation of a cooperation network was considered as important as a way to increase the competitive ability and resource sharing between organizations of tourism.
