Resumo: This work aims to describe the theoretical foundations of Butler’s Tourism Area Life Cycle model. For this reason, from a documentary review, the interest in designing a CVAT model is analyzed, as well as its updating to continue in force and the criticisms that position its author as a protagonist in the evolution of tourist destinations. It can be concluded that applying a model from 42 years ago leads to considering the design of other competitive evaluation proposals focused on the current touristic offer, far from quantitative criteria such as hotel occupancy or arrivals.
