Resumo: Nature Tourism has reported a rapid increase in the last twenty years in Mexico as in the rest of the world. The institutions dealing with environmental policy, development, and tourism have become the main actors in this process ever since they incorporated nature tourism in their programs. This work recovers the studies conducted in the last two decades to present a general overview of public policy that has boosted nature tourism in Mexico. The Comision Nacional para el Desarrollo de los Pueblos y Comunidades Indigenas (CDI) has been one of the most important governmental agencies participating in this field by channeling billions of pesos to this activity. Our research analyzes the participation of this agency from four identified moments within its activities –objectives, strategies, operation rules, and results in terms of its financing and geographical distribution of benefits. This will enable a concrete territorial analysis where we can identify the impact, achievements, and pending tasks in the implemented policy and its expectations.
