Resumo: Competitive advantage in the active tourism sector requires public policies geared towards tourism product development. Active tourism companies are key actors in the value chain of active and adventure tourism. Public reforms aimed at promoting the sustainability of active tourism companies need to be aware of their needs and circumstances. This article looks at the micro-economic situation of active tourism companies in Spain. The main conclusion of the study is that while active tourism in Spain has great potential and is of a generally higher than average standard of quality, public reforms are needed to overcome fragmentation and fragility within the sector. By way of conclusion, the article proposes a new line of research into the benefits of public incentives to promote the creation of small business corporations in the active tourism sector.
