Resumo: Examples are taken from the recent urbanization process carried out in the Region of Murcia, between the late 90s and until the crisis of the following decade. How this is done with the purpose of achieving tourist-residential functionality is shown. Likewise, whether these urban developments have been implemented under the criterion of sustainability, or whether they were simply done in search of short-term economic results is questioned. All this involves the effects produced by adverse weather conditions, which have been especially damaging in spaces with visible urban expansion. The results obtained show truncated actions for an unacceptable environmental impact and how the extent of urban development has had a negative influence during the extraordinary climatic episodes recently experienced, especially in the area surrounding mar Menor (Region of Murcia). For all this, a qualitative, descriptive, and interpretive methodology was used on a case study firmly, supported by documentary and statistical sources.
