Resumo: The objective of this article is to analyze the relationship that tourist activity in Mexico has with the process of creating municipalities in the state of Quintana Roo. Due to space issues, the recently constituted municipalities were studied in-depth: Solidaridad (1993), Tulum (2008), Bacalar (2011) and Puerto Morelos (2015). The present research corresponds to an exploratory study. For this, it was necessary to do a review of the literature, documents and newspaper articles. Likewise, information was requested via infomex on the municipalities studied. Among the findings, it is emphasized that tourist activity in Quintana Roo has given rise to the creation of new municipalities.
