Resumo: The hotel industry in Cuba is classified into national chains, joint ventures and family pensions. Among them, the national hotel chains are publicly owned and they managed their hotels directly (called internal marks) or through management contracts with foreign chains. Joint ventures always hire a foreign entity to manage their hotels, while private accommodations are managed by their owners. The aim of this study is to assess the technological contribution has meant the presence of foreign chain managers for national chains. Using statistical analysis, expert judgment collected in Delphi, direct observation and interviews, it is evaluated the quality of managing by different hotel managers (domestic and foreign) and the impact of the diffusion of foreign techniques in hotel management in own brands. The main conclusions are three: the technology of foreign hotel chains remains internalized, broadcast on national groups is low and their management does not reach the levels of quality and positioning of foreigners. To reverse this situation actions that promote domestic brands and their management are recommended.
