Resumo: The purpose of this article is to present some results arising under the research Project “Strategic planning as a tool for local development. Its application in the field of tourism in Argentina (period 2003-2013)”. The study period is selected from the year in which a series of public policies began to promote tourism as a dynamic sector of the economy, generating wealth and individual and collective well begin in the country.The first part introduce the importance of strategic planning as a tool for tourism development. A review of some facts that have influenced the planning of tourism at national level is then performed. On this basis a survey of tourism plans at provincial level, developed during the period of study is conducted. This survey was based on a review of primary and secondary sources. Finally, an analysis of provincial plans arises from the method of “fundamental questions” (DEMUCA Foundation, 2009), where following a series of questions, a comparative study of them is performed.
