Resumo: Until recent times, cultural tourism in Spain had been traditionally restricted to a few cities, Museums and some popular festivities like Semana Santa, Feria de Abril (Sevilla) or Las Fallas (Valencia). It had little acceptance due to the lack of available information, and the deficiencies in promotion and infrastructures.
Nowadays, cultural tourism in Castilla y León has become a major income source, due to the increasing number of visitors and the appropriate promotion undertaken by the administration, enterprises and experts. This growing importance of cultural tourism in our region has benefited from the impact of Las Edades del Hombre, a cultural project aimed at exhibiting the religious art heritage of Castilla Leon, through periodic exhibitions in the Cathedrals of the region. Since 1989, they have been visited by more than 6 million people, and have substantially contributed to the development of the tourism sector in Castilla y León.
