Resumo: This paper brings together theoretical and epistemological efforts to reflect about the importance of heritage education in the process of appropriation of the development of tourism by the locals, focusing on its historical and cultural heritage. It was sought to reach specific objectives, dealing with resulting questions from the recognition that the cultural heritage of autochthon is a primary step to awaken and enliven sensitivities and identities, combining the issues of belonging, participation and citizenship for tourism in order to conduct them to in a natural and spontaneous way. In this sense, the place configures itself as a tourist personality. It is concluded that the heritage education is a methodology recommended for the appropriation of development processes of cultural tourism, through its guiding elements for recovery and incentive the local identity as a prerequisite for tourism development on a sustainable basis.
