Resumo: This paper proposes a reflection on the role of travel in contemporary society, with emphasis on the intrinsic relational aspect to tourism. To do so, based on a literature review, questions will be addressed and problematized as otherness, reciprocity, hospitality, in light of the commodification of travel process in contemporary society. One of the main considerations of the article highlights the need for a redefinition of the trip, from attitudes of responsibility and respect for the exchanges and dialogues between visitors and visited. In this sense, the holidays should be ‘worked’ as a vector of development and social and cultural integration. It is the possibilities of travel contribute to the strengthening of the individual’s personality and their active participation in social and cultural life of society.
