Resumo: The relationship between tourism and environmental protection is complex and distressing, since an unbalanced management of this relationship can contribute to the end of both elements. This article intends to highlight the importance of tourist interpretation in the preservation and conservation of protected áreas, given that it contributes to a healthy balance between the tourist experience, nature conservation and the welfare of local communities. Interpretation appears as a privileged way to guide and educate visitors, having a responsible role in conservation, and being the warranter that tourism development and environmental preservation evolve in symbiosis.
