Resumo: The article aims to contribute, as a preliminary overview, to a theoretical reflection related to inclusive tourism based on two inspiring questions: in which context this notion arises and in which basis it can be understood as a real opportunity for innovation in tourism planning. Methodologically, this reflection was built based on bibliographical research having, as inspiration, the Brazilian context. The bibliographical research aimed as well to recover the chronological framework considering previous influences and contradictions that inspired the emergency of this notion in order to support the arguments and hypotheses discussed. By means of this analysis, the notion of inclusive tourism in not only a label to replace the concept of sustainable tourism. It means a real possibility of conceptual innovation that will demand from governments the definition of clear priorities concerned to the social issues involved which, in turn, implies behaviour changes and ethical attitudes in society. And more than a conceptual innovation, the notion of inclusive tourism, based on the arguments discussed, can represent an opportunity of evaluation and inspiration for sustainable practices in tourism.
