Resumo: The goals of this research were to describe and evaluate the current ecological and social impact of the tourism, as well as to characterize and analyze the visit and visitor of the immediate surroundings of a protected area in the State of Pernambuco: the Catimbau National Park. The data were collected trough personal interviews and the questionnaire consisted of four parts: sociodemographic characteristics, trip characteristics, motivation and willingness to pay. A questionnaire was applied to 100 people from September (2003) and July (2004) in order to get information about visit and visitors. Based on the results found, guidelines of a visitor management program were designed.
