Resumo: In this paper the construction of the ‘dialogical routing’, a different approach of designing touristic routes, is discussed. The theoretical support is provided by the paradigms of location-based tourism and tourism as a vehicle for meeting concepts. In turn, the empirical support was provided by an on-going project entitled ‘Roteiros dos Fortes’ (military forts’ routing) which aims to develop a set of touristic routes in six historic fortifications of Guanabara Bay, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. At first, a brief historical overview was presented, enlightening the interconnection between the fortifications and the city of Rio de Janeiro. Second, the phases of the project were presented, followed up by the discussion of important aspects of the ‘dialogical routing’ methodology. Finally, the authors present the touristic sites as symbolic sites and emphasize the responsibility of all stakeholders involved in their management in developing itineraries n such a way as to be consistent with local ethics and context.
