Resumo: This article aims to show, in the context of regional development, the new dynamics of rural-urban interaction observed in the last decades, and the different roles played by tourism in community development of rural localities.Several experiences observed in communities located in different Brazilian southeastern regions are presented. Primary data were obtained through fieldwork research conducted between 2008 and 2010, namely technical studies undertaken by the Group for Environmental Education of the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF), and research conducted by the Post-Graduate Program of Ecology (UFJF). These are unpublished data that were used for the production of this article.
