Resumo: The authors approach the tourism under a socio-cultural perspective and taking in consideration the dynamic process of tradition/innovation sustainability. Tourism mediates the socio-anthropological process of hospitality, of ethnocentric reduction, of cultural relativism and of mankind total affirmation. The authors argue that Sociology and Anthropology are disciplines in a privileged position to study Tourism as a cultural phenomenon. However they are not the only ones and other scientific approaches are necessary to understand tourism as object of study.
