Resumo: The biological and ecological significance of Serra da Lousã has recently been recognized nationally and globally during its inscription in the Natura 2000 Network, having been classified as habitats and species of community interest under the ‘Habitats’ directive. Undeniably, Serra da Lousã is home to the rich diversity of flora and fauna that requires protection and conservation.The effective implementation of planning and management in Serra da Lousã would contribute to a more stable animal population resulting to better ecological and socio-economical benefits. The aim is to study on how the implementation of a global management plan for the people of the Serra da Lousã can contribute to the planning of this natural space of unparalleled value. It is only possible through the harmonization of human activities with existing natural values, that can result in a compatible and sustainable rural development with high cultural, social and natural potentials.
