Resumo: This study is part of the narrative of the experiences lived by students and teachers from the tourism programme of Federal University of Maranhão (UFMA), during the carrying out of the extension project ‘Pedagogical tour in places of memory’. This project allowed for the acquisition of information regarding the resident community of the touristic historical center of St. Louis, between the years 2012 and 2013. Its main purpose was the elaboration of new routes based on the memories of the elderly residents of that region, raising awareness about the importance of preserving its history, both oral and built.
