Resumo: The 1998 World Exhibition has marked the commemoration of the 500 years of the Portuguese Discoveries. This exhibition was considered one of the most well achieved, throughout the entire history of this event, not only for its success but also for its positive impact on the city of Lisbon, in terms of urban rehabilitation. This was recognized by the Bureau International des Exhibitions as the best worldwide exhibition of all, today being a case study at various levels, but very struggles for cities that equate the realization of large events and involving large scale urban intervention. This investigation tried to evaluate the impact of the urban rehabilitation of the oriental zone, motivated by the organization of the World Exposition 1998, in the city of Lisbon and in which way changed the structure of growth. At the same time, it was identified the link between the rehabilitation and the tourism, and which was influenced the flows of tourists in the city.
