Resumo: The emergence of a new form classified as creative tourism, which focuses on the study of the experiences that are offered to tourists and the possibility of participation of this as co-creator of his own experience, contributing to the satisfaction of their needs by personal self-discovery is observed within the tourism industry in recent years. The present work carried out a review of the academic literature on creative tourism through a bibliometric analysis that takes as its reference the SCOPUS database in order to assess the scientific activity, determine the main trends of research on this issue and identify the research gaps. The methodology applied for its development is “descriptive-quantitatively” based on the bibliometric indices that govern this part of the scientometrics. They were identified and analyzed 93 items during the period 1997-2016, whose results show that it is from 2009 when start to increase considerably the number of publications. A total of 145 different authors with an average of 1.17 authors is observed for work, 51.6% of authors sign in solo and highlights the Annals of Tourism Research magazines followed by Tourism Management as a main means of publication. The creative exploitation of resources is evident as the main approach followed by researchers with 34 items.
