Resumo: We estimate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in tourism activities, we hypothesize the disease had a negative effect on the economic, social and emotional aspects of tourist service providers in the Magic Town of Orizaba. Data retrieved with Google Trends for years 2016-2020 was used to analyze trends in keywords related to tourism in Orizaba. Three situations were analyzed: a worst-case scenario, an intermediate scenario and a best-case scenario. In a second stage, a questionnaire was applied to service providers to explore their perception of the impact of the epidemic on economic, social, and emotional aspects. Analysis of Google Trends showed a negative impact of COVID-19 in all the keywords consulted. The opinion of the people surveyed agreed in an economic affectation. There was a dismissal of personnel, businesses were closed, and people looked for complementary economic activities. Also, there was a decrease in income and a reduction of tourists. The most affected tourism entities were hotels and restaurants. At the emotional level, the interviewees had feelings of anxiety, social isolation, fear, depression, weight gain, feelings of unhappiness, and were seeking family support during the pandemic. Tourism service providers suggest tourism planning and design of new tourism products to mitigate negative impact. Anxiety and financial problems were the most frequent issues related to personal problems. Tourism entrepreneurs are committed to promoting the Orizaba Magic Town brand and well as Nature Tourism.
