Resumo: Currently, the analysis of variables and indicators that describe the evolution of a tourist destination allows diagnosing its state of development and contributes to its planning in order to achieve the objectives set. The present investigation was carried out with the objective of establishing the variables and indicators to evaluate the level of development of tourist destinations in Cuba. An own methodological procedure was used, consisting of three phases and seven stages, in which the expert method, bibliographic review and interviews were used. Based on this initial analysis and the bibliographic review, a set of potential variables and indicators was compiled, and later 22 key variables were defined with their corresponding indicators based on evaluation criteria. As a result, the key variables and optimal indicators that describe the level of development of tourist destinations were established, evaluating the viability of their application in the Cuba destination.
