Resumo: The impact on tourists and residents of the wave of violence generated by criminal capital in its dispute over markets and territories is discussed. Criminal capital is considered a sui generis expression of the accumulation of capital under licit and illicit modalities. To know its impact, non-linear regression models were applied in tourist influx and economic spillover; and to determine such impact on residents, a socio-spatial segregation index was calculated. The results show that, in the city of Zacatecas-Guadalupe, Mexico during the period 1986-2020, criminal acts such as drug dealing and threats made tourists more aware but are still not enough to affect their influx or, therefore, the tourism economy. The public security strategy against violence protects tourists. Instead, the unprotected residents resorted to self-segregation; in this regard, those with greater purchasing power were the ones who resolved it in the best way.
