Resumo: This research is based on landscape description as a construct of dynamics and socio-cultural meanings to enhance the understanding of the interrelations and projection of the natural and material environment. A qualitative study is made in order to generate an analysis of the landscape transformation in Malinalco. The methodology is based on perceptions and social meanings, which have been well documented through in-depth narrative interviews. The local actors are characterized, disaggregated, analyzed and categorized based on Alfred Schütz's Social Phenomenology and the interpretive model proposed by Lalive d'Epinay. The identification of the landscape transformation process is described by three dimensions (temporal, social and spatial) and the two ethos of the Malinalco population have been delimited. The results identify two population groups: the traditional inhabitant who preserves the memory of the landscape considered as original; and the contemporary inhabitant who defends the hybrid landscape derived from the revaluations and new functions of the representative spaces in the municipality. These interpretations allow us to conclude that the different types of tourism in rural areas (as is the case study) permeate the socio-cultural dynamics of the community, promoting changes and transformations that at first sight would be considered endogenous, and that have direct repercussions on the structures and social meanings regarding its resources (now tourist attractions) and its environment and, therefore, the landscape.
