Resumo: Tourism under global capitalism often uses territories in ways that conceal the negative impact on the territorial-heritage. This heritage is vital for preserving traditional markets and providing economic opportunities for impoverished communities in Latin America. This article aims to examine the factors that contribute to the resilience of territorial-heritage dynamics in traditional markets amid the growing pressure from tourism in the historical metropolitan sites of Coyoacán (Mexico City) and La Perseverancia (Bogotá, Colombia). It was found that the former site is at risk of losing its status, while the latter has experienced its complete disappearance. This research employs a mixed methodological design, including direct observations, semi structured interviews, and thematic mapping of the market’s urban sectors.
