Resumo: The Tourism Area Life Cycle model is one of the most used tools in analyzing tourist competitiveness. Addressing the problem of the lack of a comprehensive tourism strategy in the city of Guanajuato that satisfies positive tourism development, this research establishes its objectives in documentary analysis of the evolution of the tourism indicators that the city of Guanajuato has presented and the identification of the corresponding stage regarding the model of the Life Cycle of Tourist Destinations that allows establishing relevant future strategies. The document was developed with a descriptive quantitative approach that used review techniques and documentary analysis of various indicators of the destination. In conclusion, it is highlighted that the city of Guanajuato has been in the Stagnation phase since 2016. This results in an evident need to define tourism management strategies to promote the destination's leadership effectively.
