Resumo: In the massive littoral tourist spaces of Ibero-America, the employment of housekeepers is very precarious, with low incomes and predominantly occupied by women and immigrants. The aim of this article is to show empirically, from a comparative study between the chambermaids of two representative coastal regions of littoral tourism in Ibero-America: the Riviera Maya (Mexico) and the Costa del Sol (Spain), the perception of these workers —based on 36 in-depth interviews— about their contractual conditions, interaction with their bosses and tourists, as well as their health.
