Resumo: The predominant image of the Veracruz-Boca del Rio urban sprawl as a tourist destination is based on its seaside views, culture, gastronomy, history and sea-port activity. Although sex is not a prominent feature, this tourist corridor has an important sex-tourism dynamic, on account of its liminality as a littoral space and the festive nature of the local inhabitants. Based on participant and non-participant observation and in-depth interviews, this qualitative study analyzes, from a geographical perspective, the way in which women sex workers (both cisgender and transgender) appropriate, organize and perceive the territory of this tourist destination. The sex-tourism marker relies here on the identification of clients as tourists by sex workers in their lived space. Of special interest is the perception that these workers have of their own work and of the sex-tourism phenomenon as a whole.
