Resumo: San Carlos de Bariloche city, Nahuel Huapi lake and its surroundings were early valued for their landscapes and natural attractions. Due to its geographical location, this city can be affected by earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Through the documentary analysis of the main institutions involved: the local government, the National Parks Administration and the Argentine Geological Mining Service, we problematize the virtual invisibility of the constitutive geomorphological characteristics of the landscape. The present work addresses how the geological, volcanic and seismic risk was stereotyped and re-presented by said institutions and how this negatively impacted on the evolution of the volcanic events of the last 60 years, emphasizing the recent eruption of the Puyehue Cordón-Caulle in June 2011. Based on the sources consulted, it is concluded that tourism, as the main engine of local development, contributed to such invisibility.
