Resumo: In the new era of tourism at the end of the last century, highly specialized tourism is promoted, taking importance of rural tourism as a development strategy. The objective of the research was to know the tourist potential of the municipalities of the state of Puebla. The research arose from the need to categorize the tourist potential of the municipalities taking as a reference the distance that exists with respect to a tourist pole, its tangible and intangible cultural heritage, its natural resources and tourist services. The result showed that there are 16 highly touristic municipalities, of which 13 are polycentric tourist spaces, 64 are moderately touristic and 137 are scarcely touristic. Of moderately touristic municipalities, 40.6% meet the conditions to join the area of influence of polycentric tourist spaces. It was concluded that the highly touristic municipalities are concentrated in the Angelópolis region and in the northern highlands of the state.
