Resumo: Rural tourism is a type of leisure that has gained increasing importance in the tourist markets of central Mexico, although in many cases the demand is incipient, given the lack of a comprehensive tourism product in many rural areas. The aim of this paper is to identify the characteristics of the rural tourist profile, through the study of the demand in some rural destinations in the State of Mexico. The analysis was conducted through a multiple case study, using digital ethnography, survey and observation, to have a better understanding of the object of study. The profile of the tourist was established and an analysis was carried out on subjective and objective aspects in the consumption of rural tourism services. These aspects allow us to identify that, even when tourism demand is unstable, the rural tourism enterprises studied have been gradually consolidated due to the local development of capacities.
