Resumo: In contemporary times, the perspectives on idleness, leisure and free time, both in common sense and in the academic context, still present inaccuracies and ambiguities. Given the above, this paper aims to analyze specificities of the perspectives of idleness, leisure and free time in Brazil. To this end, a qualitative, exploratory, bibliographic research was conducted, based on the narrative review of the literature. Analyzes indicate that idleness is a timeless, subjective and self-conditioned phenomenon. Leisure, in turn, is understood as activities linked to the free time of social obligations. Free time, on the other hand, has its conception anchored in the time of not working from the Industrial Revolution. The conclusions of this work point to the necessity of dialogism among the researchers of these approaches in order to resolve such inaccuracies.
