Resumo: Contemporary capitalism is in crisis and ecological is one of them. From the perspective of political economy in its recent ecologically based formation, it is manifested that the prevailing mode of production is disturbing the balance of all living beings that inhabit planet Earth. The various contradictions of the relationships between human beings and nature for the accumulation of capital are evidenced through the analysis of the metabolic rift. Tourism, being an activity oriented to the accumulation of capital, generates a negative impact in the social and environmental spheres. Although the mainstream considers it a positive activity due to its impact on economic growth in the places where it takes place, it is based on the exploitation of the workforce and natural resources, which is why it forms a metabolic rift.
