Resumo: The objective this study was to analyze the significance of the relationships between the use of managerial artefacts and the organizational characteristics of companies in the hotel sector in the city of João Pessoa (Brasil). To reach this objective, an exploratory and quantitative research was realized. The universe comprised all 106 companies listed in the registry of the Municipal Secretary of Tourism of João Pessoa, of which 98 accepted participating in this research. Data collection was performed through face-toface interviews, in July and August 2018. The collected data were processed using the Statistica software. As a result of the study, it was found that the most commonly-used traditional management artefacts were: budget, budget analysis and traditional costing techniques. Modern artefacts used benchmarking and just in time to assist in decision making. It was determined that a managerial artefact used in one organization may not necessarily be quite as successful in another.
