Resumo: With the use of the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) boom and a new scenario in which urban areas are beyond rural ones in terms of demographic size, new needs emerged, and with them new urban and economic models, such as Smart Cities, Smart Destinations, or Smart Tourism. This paper aims to establish a holistic definition of those concepts, deepening in the smartness model applied to a tourism destination, through a literature review that allows clarifying the beginning, the evolution, and the current situation of those concepts.
