Resumo: This article aims to validate an instrument to evaluate the factors that attract and retain economic activities of tourism. An instrument called factors that attract and retain tourism activities (FARAT) was designed based on the review of the literature and was applied to 450 actors in the tourism sector such as hotel, restaurant, tourist transport, public officials and local leaders from three territorial areas of Tabasco, Mexico. Variables such as tourism resources, infrastructure, accessibility, public policies and the community that measure the perception of tourism actors through 42 items were considered. Validation was carried out through expert judgment and factor analysis. In conclusion, the instrument is a valid and reliable tool to be used in future studies.
