Resumo: Historic cities are currently experiencing a boom in the number of tourists and their diversity. The change in traditional uses for visitor-related activities and the evolution in mobility patterns profoundly affect the daily life of urban centres. It is necessary to analyze their spatial distribution in order to take appropriate measures both in urban planning and in other public policies. This paper analyzes this phenomenon in the historic cities of Malaga (Andalusia, Spain) and Plymouth (England, United Kingdom). To achieve it, a mixed methodology was applied consisting of field work, classification of activities in groups, processing of information using a Geographic Information System (GIS), preparation of synthetic plans and presentation of conclusions. The results show which areas are consolidated from the point of view of their tourist use and which are in the process of consolidation. The methodology can be applied to historic cities that have similar renewal dynamics to increase tourism activities.
